No, it's not over.

Wanda Jackson came out with a new album last month thanks to the weird and wonderful Jack White (who happened to ditch Meg for good today...not in that way, I'm sure they're still buddies). Anyway, back to Wanda. The Bif & Sarah team went to go see her last year and it was Wandaful - got to love puns. This album, The Party Ain't Over, ain't half bad either, I finally got it today. Actually it's pretty damn good. Jack did with Wanda what he did with Loretta all those years ago...gooood albums them both, very good.

This deserves it's own post

JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE IS COMING TO AUCKLAND IN MARCH!!! ZOMG! He's such a babe. I have a crush on him. Not in a sarcastic way like "Oh I have a 'crush on him' but I have a boyfriend and all" No, I HAVE A CRUSH ON HIM! Swoon.

Oh and his music is pretty up there too...Here he sings Leadbelly, which is a bit of alright too.

Friday night...

Yes it's January 21st, SO WHY ARE YOU NOT AT THE BIG DAY OUT HUH???

JUST COS I'M NOT OK!!! I'm at home in my comfy clothes (see photo) with no Friday night plans and am hap-hap-happy! Actually I would be happier if someone would have agreed to go to Kenny Rogers with me which is also on tonight - the world doesn't revolve around the Big Day Out you know. It most certainly doesn't this year anyway in my opinion with the Black Keys cancelling. Here are videos of three dudes that would have been cool to see tonight, but instead the comfy clothes win.

I found you, Miss New Booty...

but does it really want to be found? Ok, so here's the thing. Summer obviously came along over the long weekend - duh! And with that comes a new wardrobe, or at least eliminating something from it. TIGHTS! Goodbye old faithful friends and hello instantly transformed and weather appropriate outfits! And hello something else...booty on show. I don't know about you, but all weekend while skipping around in the sun and in my newly transformed outfits I felt somewhat exposed. A gust of wind, a reach too high or even the 'is it really THAT short' realisation could have me looking like little Miss frilly knickers up there. I'm sure it's all nice and stuff to have your booty filed in the ass category of Titty City however I am going to let those girls bask in that glory without me if I can help it. Public near nakedness makes blush, call me crazy but I've never been a fan...I mean what if it's laundry day and I DON'T have my frilly knickers on? Then what? Shame and humiliation, that's what.
Tights are just so awesome because they a) make EVERYTHING instantly more dressed up, they also b) make EVERYTHING longer. I don't care if it's the same skirt and you haven't grown - take away the tights and it's about 10cm shorter (exaggerate? me? never...). So hooray for maxis? No. I like my new looong dress and all, but I will not hooray the word maxi. Well I guess then it's hello 'bending down like a lady at work' (bending the knees, not the torso) my new best friend for summer.

I need to learn how to booty shake like that. Maybe getting an actualy booty first would help...

Yee-ha!

Hi y'all. Not a lot happening except that I am getting a bit too excited about summer. Ok yeah so it's like 'spring' and all, but spring very much still in it's quotation marks. It's actually colder than it was a few weeks ago, right? Or am I just crazy? I think I'm pretty crazy because I bought sandals today. SANDALS! Gurl you crazy! I know. I but i can barely contain myself. i can't really contain myself over the release of the new Justin Townes Earle album either. I've pre-ordered the little guy (the c.d. not the actual man...) and I NEVER do that because pre-ordering is for freaks and ultimate geeks. Well guess what I'm an ultimate geek. Justin Townes Earle is my favorite, favorite, favorite musician dude. Tops all the lists! I was pretty much bed-ridden when I came back from an overseas trip and realised that my trip DID NOT overlap his first NZ gig a few years ago. Very sad. Anyway let's NEVER talk about that boo boo every again...in other news this new album doesn't seem like it's going to disappoint at all. Title track is also fueling my urge for summer, so catchy, so summery. Listen to it here.

This is Sarah b.t.w, if you couldn't tell because Bif rolls her eyes at country and Sarah is lame enough to pre-order shit. Actually if you DIDN'T know that, YOU HAVEN'T BEEN READING THIS BLOG ENOUGH! DO IT MORE!

Ew, it's raining.

What a completely crappy day. If you're in Auckland anyway. I'm sure Bif is out in London wiggling around in the sun. Bleh! Anyway, you know what's pretty awesome to listen to? Film soundtracks. Know who puts together pretty good ones? Sofia Coppola and Kevin Shields. Know what's a pretty good soundtrack to make a disgusting winter day somewhat bearable? Lost In Translation. That's all.

p.s. I love Bill Murray so much. That's all (for real)

Karen Elson can sing, apparently

Karen Elson sings now? Ok, sure. I guess she might as well. I've always been slightly scared of Jack White. He's just too controlling, in a good way though, cos look what he's done and not just with wifey. But the black white and red, marrying Miss pale skin and fiery hair here, naming their daughter Scarlett...Ahhhh, it just weirds me out a wee bit. But anyway, in general he's pretty alright. Back to Karen Elson's singing...I'm undecided. Sometimes it makes it smile, and other times it makes me cringe. Lets I'm 70% excited about this. I'm 100% excited about her dress though. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Would be great if my growth spurt kicked in right about....now! No? Nothing? Sigh.

WANDA!

Wanda Jackson last night was amazers. Let's not lie. A 72-year-old in fringe? How can that not turn into fun? It can't not, don't argue. But maybe the biggest props will have to go to an Unfashionable Guide to Fashion favorite, Nat. She managed the almost impossible last night. True dedication. True genius.

It's someone's birthday today!

My friend. My sister Anna. It's her birthday today you know. Yay! For her birthday here is a picture of us as kids. She's the one with the white vest because she was a prefect because she was totally awesome and I was just a little shit, as you can tell. Wow, just realised how prefect and perfect are very similar words...crazers!

Here is a Phil Collins video for nobody but Anna because who really likes Phil Collins but her? Ok, maybe you do too, so enjoy this with her. She went to his concert when she was only five or something like that. How cool is that? Very! What a hip kid. Even hipper than Macaualy Culkin was in that Michael Jackson video. Well guess what? My sister is still very awesome, hip and cool! Fancy that! Happy Birthday Friend!

And FINALLY tonight

Please join me in mourning my loss to attend the Wanda Jackson show. I am slow, lazy, forgetful and now regretful. I am also at your mercy if you have a spare, or two, ticket?!?! Nothing gross please - mainly just buying you treats everyday for a year plus an inflated price of the ticket. PUHLEASE!

Music makes me lose control

or at least recently I have lost control of my music. I NEED HELP. Calling all ye cool readers, help me find something new to listen to so I don't go insane. I am up for any suggestions. Here is a run down of the kind of music I like:

1) I like 'good' country music.

2) I like swoon worthy country music along the lines of Hank Williams by swoon worthy tall, tall, tall young lads.

3) but I also LOVE (yes, capitals) 'bad' country music.

4) Neil Young. Fullstop.

5) Beyonce. Fullstop.

6) A list of assorted 'need to know and love' cool dudes

7) I even listen to gospel music

8) 50s and 60s rock n roll. Defo.

9) Fleetwood Mac. Fullstop.

10) You know, all the other shit that's out there Animal Collective, Elvis, Lady Gaga, Bill Callahan, Smog, Soujla Boy Tell 'Em, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Jenny Lewis, BRMC, The Kills, Taylor Swift, Leadbelly, Michael Jackson, Pulp, Primal Scream, The Black Keys, Keils, Pavement, The Cramps, Paul Simon, Justin Timberlake, The Smiths, 50 Cent, Cat Power, Sam Cooke, Merle Haggard, Tom Waits, blah, blah, blah, music wankery spew.

So roll, up roll up, suggest me something not on that list. I will give you a virtual hug if I like what I hear! As you can see I have crazy irrational taste that borderlines more on the side of 'bad' than 'good' so don't be afraid. The only thing that really makes my ears bleed is cutesy music. You know the kind that has too many xylophones and is always played in the golden light of sunset in a field of overgrown grass. GROSS. Oh and you know Pete Wentz's band and stuff like that (mamma didn't raise no fool). But yes, I just need help and assistance! My iPod is driving me bored.

p.s. re-posting this photo. God damn Elvis was a babe!

p.p.s. Jen Eatson I will NOT accept suggestions anywhere near you calling me an 'ultimate hipster' b.t.w. Get off that band wagon already. It's beginning to give me a rash.

Who else forgot what Rihanna's face looked like?

Like when she had hair. I sure did. Lil Ri Ri harks back to ye ole days once in a while in her new video for Rude Boy. She also has most certainly grown all up...

Well, you learn something everyday, don't cha?

The girl who starts out on the right. Totes man in drag. Jonte. Remember Jonte?

Who would have known? Bif would have known. And now (after a night of gin, cran and tonic and couch dancing - that is dancing without standing up, my speciality) I know. And now you know too!

Big Love!!!

Big Love is back. And a new opening sequence has been thrown into the mix. I don't know how I feel about it. Don't get me wrong, it is quite amazers. I just really miss the ice skating. And the Beach Boys. YouTube is missing the old Big Love opening too. So instead of comparing, here is some retro-tastic Fleetwood Mac.

Anyway...last night's episode was AH-mazing! AH-mazing I tell you. Nicki, Lois and Adelene are still as good as ever, if not better! Still as manipulative, funny and handy with power generators as ever. Watch it! Do it!

I am so ashamed

So as much as I hate on Lady Gaga...

I kinda, sort of, maybe, like this song. I didn't lurve it straight away when I first heard it, nor did I HATE it. But what really pushed me right over the edge into like-ville was this video. I bow my head in shame.
