YOU HAVE NOT BEEN FORGOTTEN

i haven't forgotten you unfashionable friends! i've just been busy kick starting my moonlighting gig. but if you still refuse to move here is a little tid bit to keep ya going...mainly about things i got on the weekend. yay!

oh cool, a globe. i can sit above it and pretend i'm a massive giant. well...it also kind of does this

yeah that's right. i got myself a globe lamp people! i have forever been looking for a good quality globe lamp that wasn't plastic but that also didn't cost $300 and up. i finally found that needle in the haystack last week on trademe. i couldn't believe it. start price $175?! i almost went into hysterics. i approached this very cautiously so not to set off a bidding war days before it closed. i stalked my prey and 5 minutes before it closed i pounced with the opening bid of $175. the frantic page refreshing followed. no new bids. ever. closing. closing. closed. mine. really? for $175!?!? holy crap! and this is a real baby too, metal frame and solid wood base, the real deal y'all. wes anderson movies would be so proud of me. the 8-year-old national geographic fan version of myself would be so proud of me. you should be proud of me too. or at least happy! happy camper.

i also did a bit of bargain hunting at the mall en route to my actual destination the supermarket - what's new here? glassons my darling friend managed to find me a good little real leather suede jacket for $200. that's pretty good if you're ask me. especially since i am still unsure if i can pull off the biker jacket thing. bif could do it. but i was always more of a denim jacket girl. but the price tag and this amazing teal/dark grey colour just grabbed a hold of me. what do we think people? the peace sign definitely toughens it up too, don't you think....?

and finally, in this self-indulgent post of mine, is the mention that i FINALLY got my lonely hearts dress. finally is in capitals because this particular exercise turned out to be a lot more arduous and such a huge pain in my ass that i won't even talk about it here there is too much complaining and wtf moments involved. i'm just going to move on from that and be happy with my dress. so happy with it i wore it straight away to justin townes earle last night; which was, by the way, amazing. however while older people at concerts are very cute and adorable, they become a lot less so when they turn around and hiss "shut up" at you every time you mutter a word. not an annoying yahoo (while there was some of that happening around, which is like, ok we're at a gig...) but just a simple, audible "i love this song" to your friend next to you - cue grumpy old person whipping around and hissing "shut up". what? really? go home lady.

Things are happening...

So, Sarah's jumped ship. Kind of, sort of, not really. But I do have my own blog now. Like a blog blog not a picture blog. One with words and everything! Working towards other stuff for the blog (and you and me) in my head. Hear about it first on the new blog all in good time. But in the meantime...please follow me, I need support and lots o friends! x

Sunday funday

Sunday funday at Coromandel Cacti. Pulling up underneath a huge group of power pylons on a gravel driveway felt more like something out of a wonderful El Paso dream than the Mt. Wellington Highway. I didn't want to leave. But I did, with three more plants. I've pretty much got a cacti hothouse happening in my apartment right now. Coromandel Cacti my new Topshop? I believe so.

huhhhhhhhhhhh??

To be honest, I nearly didn't even pay attention to the darn clothes when I looked at this. I was TOTALLY focused on the makeup, or face paint or whatever.

Why was it different for each model? Why were some tribal and some like the models had been sniffing black spray paint? Do I love it or do I hate it? The line is very thin. I like these ones, I think, bit a lot of the others weren't creepy enough or looked to halloween-ish.
So many questions, gang, so many questions.

I really miss home.

A lot! Really a lot right now. I'd really like to get a Supreme coffee, have some Bluebird chips, a cookie time and a le snack.
And I'd chop off my right arm for a day or two with Sarah, my awesome nephews and niece and my mum.
And some sun!!!!! I'd be happy with some sun, for sure.

It was bound to happen this way...

...and you've probably already read all about it. Dior is done with their main man John G. Hmmm...aside from the crippling substance abuse problems and anti-Semitic fiasco, I still can't really say I'm flabbergasted by this decision. Fall 2011 RTW was weird, mis-matchy and Eastern European to say the least. And while the Haute Couture has never failed to ooh and ahh...it got a bit samesy. Please don't think I'm saying that I'm better than John Galliano or that I think his designs are terrible...they are AMAZING! All I'm saying is that this was more of a 'Yeah, ok' moment than a 'OMFG REALLY?!' one...ya know? Makes you wonder also, as it's not really rocket science that Galliano needed to get some rehab for quite sometime before he apparently became a racist, how long has Dior been waiting for the perfect rip cord to come along? Anti-Semitic remarks in Europe ought to do it...

Where have you been all my life?

I went to Dennys for the first time in a looooong time this weekend. Curly Fries! Aaaaaand...A FLASHING GLASS! TO TAKE HOME! FOR $5! It's 100 times better in real life than in these photos. Something about flashing lights that seem to suck me in...

Why are you so expensive???

Lover always manages to make achingly beautiful clothes

And, of course, the occasional WTF?

Seriously, is this really a knitted full length jumpsuit? Really? Who would ever need this?

This!

This is incredible. Not only is it a disgustingly beautiful car. It's $1,000,000 PLUS. Yes! That's SIX zeros and then some. Zomg. I know this is a stupid thing to say, but, I want it. I also wish I still was working at Webb's so I could at least touch this bad boy. There is always something slightly seductive about a well maintained and restored old car. I think it's the glisten of the paint or that camel leather...I would look good in this car. Well, for a million bucks, I better look good.

WHOA MAMA

Get a load of this baby, now available to us little people through the imaginary shopping heaven that is Net a Porter. This one would be worth mugging an old lady for.

Do a little dance...

make a little love...

get down tonight.

Disco fever all over these Alexander Wang pants. Completely irrelevant to any kind of life that isn't on a lit up dance floor, but I still utterly and hopelessly need a pair (or all three) of these in my life. I WOULD WEAR THESE TO WORK and boogie by the photocopier all day long.

Somethings I see here in London are things that I have never seen in New Zealand.
A while ago, I caught the bus through some far flung London suburbs and went through an area called Stamford Hill. At first, it looked like any other suburb - until I saw people. The houses were the same, the roads were the same, but almost every single person I saw was an Orthodox Jew, or Haredi Jew, as they are called.
I was absolutely fascinated by it - not just the fact that they were dressed in the style of Haredi Jew's, but the fact that this was a total community. Literally, did not see any other "regular" people in the neighborhood other than us on the bus.

I found these pictures by London based photographer Andrew Aitchison, which were part of a photo essay he did on the Stamford Hill area.

A whole world apart from me literally just around the corner. The best part of my brief encounter was the teenage boy in full Orthodox clothing, listening to his ipod on the bus.

Things I buy that I might not normally buy..

But I really like them!?
Long story short, I work for this company, and part of the deal is that I have to wear certain company's clothing to work EVERY DAY. Believe me, it gets tired. There are days when all I want is to wear something illegal. Some days I do. But regardless, I bought these three lovely items the other day and I felt like they were most un-like my regular style. Very floral, very feminine. But perhaps I'm becoming more girly in my old age??

Oh, p.s I know you can see the tags of the clothes, from which any smarty pants can know where I work. But I can't name it on the blog or I might feel the wrath of a lawsuit or something. Yuck.

what the hell is going on in these photos?

Pants?! Hello, what? It's not even bag lady. It's weird lady. I just don't get this aesthetic, like, at all...

How many horsey jumpers does a girl need?

Does she need two? Because she already has one. But she really wants this one too. Her one is white. This one is grey marle. Hmmm...

Christchurch

A bit of an understatement to say say that it's been a horrific week for Christchurch. Give what you can here

guess what?!

Did you know that Bif & Sarah had Tumblrs? Yawn, yes well we do. Bif's is less lazy than Sarah's as she actually took those photos. Click them, duh.

looking forward to the cold

or at least the cool. I'm so sick of this heat. I would like to be able to wear at least two layers of clothing. I don't want winter, that sucks too. I want autumn. I like spring and autumn, I hate extremes. I already have a new cable knit jumper and wool dress hanging in my wardrobe crying out to be worn. I'm also thinking about getting this anorak...

it's a bit primary school excursion day, but in a really good way.

out with the new and in with the old

Scents. It's something a girl must find like a good handbag or acne cream. I had a really good one in high school, Marc Jacobs Perfume eau de parfum. But I was 16 and felt that it couldn't really last, so I tried to move on. I've been through all the 'it' perfumes, Chloe, YSL even dabbled in a little Gucci - thought I finally found my grown-up smell in Stella McCartney Sheer. But I haven't. In reality I really hit the nail all those years ago with good old Marcy Marc. I'm coming back, but please don't bring back bad coming of age memories with you. Maybe I can turn into an alternate scent girl, that way bloodhounds wouldn't be able to track me as easily...

home sick from work

but this pink blazer, almost smoking jacket, from Acne would brighten up my day. There is something about this bubblegum/muted pink that gets to me. I've never been a pink fan, but the way this pink doesn't yell 'IM PINK' is very appealing, also the masculine nature of the jacket makes this hue a-ok.

Quietly impressed

I saw Black Swan a few weeks ago, and it was everything I expected. Good. I wasn't blown away, but maybe that's because I expected "really disturbing, totally twisted." Yes it was somewhat disturbing and somewhat twisted, but not really or totally. Maybe I'm slowly growing out of my scary cat boots. I'm not saying it was bad, no, no, not at all. Just surprised I wasn't more scared. Go see it if you haven't already, if anything just to keep up with the crowd - because that's always important.

P.S. why don't they use this movie poster more?

happiness in a box

As you might already know, Bif & Sarah use to live together. What You probably didn't know is that Bif owned a crepe machine and was pretty good at making delicious midnight French snacks (Nutella and sugar included). But since Bif flew the nest 6 months ago I've had to find alternative snack solutions. Enter Marcel's Crepes. Individually snap frozen. Takes 50 seconds in the microwave. No artificial bad food stuff. Good for breakfast, lunch, dinner and any other hungry time. Oh and they are DELICIOUS! Best frozen/microwave food discovery in a very long time.

Can I justify this?

Keep in mind that I can't seem to find a photo of these from the front. Granted, I didn't try super hard, but I did try.
302 pounds... like $620 NZD. Ok, wait, now that I converted it, they are kinda expensive... but so pretty! FROM THE SIDE.
